Welcome to Rostock, Germany

Rostock is situated in the North of Germany, with the oldest University in the Baltic Region and the oldest University Department for Otorhinolaryngology in Northern Europe.

Big-city flair combined with Hansa flair architecture, a broad cultural scene, modern gastronomy and a wide range of shopping facilities make the City of Rostock a real experience for fans of culture and urban life. The oldest university of Northern Europe (anno 1419), churches, monasteries, city gates and the omnipresent brick Gothic give an idea of the Hansa flair of the past. Numerous museums and cultural offers at exceptional locations such as a former shipyard hall or a former nunnery offer a varied program.

The Warnemünde resort is a district within the City of Rostock. It was first mentioned in a document as early as 1195 and got its name from the river Warnow which flows into the Baltic Sea here. Measuring at 150 metres in width, Warnemünde has the widest sandy beach on the German Baltic coast.

The University of Rostock – Traditio et Innovatio

Tradition and innovation are the trademarks of our 600-year history. Education and research started in Rostock even 73 years before Columbus discovered America as the university was founded already in 1419. A lot has changed in the meantime. Such as the technical faculty founded in 1951 – the first one ever established at a classical university. Plenty of new, modern buildings, as the completely new campus for natural sciences in the district Suedstadt, represent the innovative strength and modernity of our university.
